Windows 10 is considered to be the best edition of operating systems that Microsoft has come up with so far. However, there might occur some issues with Windows 10 many of which are easy to deal with.

The following steps can be taken to rectify them.

Prevent Sticky Keys

Sticky Keys is a feature that gets activated if you hit the Shift key five times in a row in Windows and clicking “yes” by mistake in a dialog box that appears. If you accidentally activate it and it can be annoying if it happens, you can fix it by hit the Shift key five times in a row so that the same dialog box appears. Select the option “Disable this keyboard shortcut in Ease of Access Keyboard Settings” and uncheck the option “Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times.”

Calm The UAC Down

Users can grant administrative rights to software programs due to User Account Control (UAC), especially when such permissions are required to install or uninstall software. Initially, the screen would get dim and other programs running in PC would stop but now Windows provides you an option to prevent the screen dimming or turn it off completely.

Delete Unused Apps

There might be some program in Windows 10 which you don’t use at all. Now, Windows allows you to delete some pre-installed apps. You can go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features and this is where you get the option of deleting some apps. Navigate carefully to ensure that you are deleting the unused apps and not the ones you use.

Stop Auto Reboots

Windows 10 offers updates frequently and you need to reboot your PC after every update. If you don’t then Windows 10 will reboot it anytime and you might end up losing some important data. It is not a good idea to turn off updates completely. You can use a feature called Active Hours, and schedule a time for reboots.

No More Notifications

If you hate notifications or consider it a distraction then you can turn it off. Go to Settings > System > Notifications & Actions and turn off all the toggle switches for the apps that annoy you. If anything goes wrong you can always contact Windows live mail help and support.

Use A Local Account

Microsoft asks you to sign in to Windows 10 with your Microsoft account. But you have the option of not to. During setup, you have to click Skip this step. Now, if you have already signed in with the Microsoft account then you need to go to Settings > Accounts > Your info and click Sign in with a local account.

Use A PIN, Not A Password

If you wish to sign in with a Microsoft account, but want to use a short personal identification number (PIN) instead of your password, then you can reset your password to PIN. The PIN is only numerals and no mixed case letters or special characters can be used. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options, select the Add button under PIN and enter the PIN.

Skip The Password Login

If you are the only one who has access to your PC then you can skip the password login screen that shows up after every reboot. Go to the User Accounts control panel, select the account, uncheck the box next to “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.” A confirmation box will appear that asks you to enter that very password twice. Do it and reboot the PC.

Hide Or Disable Cortana

You have the option to hide or completely turn off Cortana. To hide Cortana: right-click the Taskbar and select Cortana > Hidden. The search box will disappear but Cortana is still active. If you want to disable Cortana so that all of your searches will be local then you can do it by editing the registry.  Make a system restore point before you do it and only do it if you are a Windows expert. You can also call Windows tech support.

Refresh Instead Of Reset

Windows 10 provides an option to reinstall Windows 10 on your computer without deleting any of your data. Go to settings > Update & Security > Recovery, and click Get Started under Reset this PC. You can select settings like “Keep My Files” or “Remove Everything”. A copy of Windows 10 on a disc or USB flash drive is not required to do this.
